Dr. Bennet Omalu is a Nigerian-born physician renowned for discovering Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) in American football players and military veterans. A highly accomplished medical expert, he holds eight degrees and certifications, including an MD from the University of Nigeria, an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University, and an MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh. He also holds five board certifications in various medical and management specialties.
He has received numerous global honors, including three honorary doctorates and the prestigious Distinguished Service Award from the American Medical Association. His groundbreaking work on brain trauma has influenced legislation and policies in the U.S., earning recognition from Congress.
Dr. Omalu’s life and work inspired the 2015 Hollywood film Concussion, where he was portrayed by Will Smith, and have been chronicled in bestselling books. He is a prolific author and speaker on brain injuries and continues to research CTE diagnosis and treatment in living patients.
Currently, he serves as President of Bennet Omalu Pathology and is a Clinical Professor at UC Davis. He resides in California with his wife, Prema, and their two children.
